Bill says that he “was intrigued by the notion of a research university cooperating with local municipalities and public utilities in a new way to expose students to real life situations of extreme importance. I contacted Dr. Sankar and discovered that he welcomed a new cooperative effort to do some additional research. He designed a meaningful randomized test that combined the synergy of Berntsen’s Magnetic RFID concepts with stand-alone GPS for recovery of an asset point. Once again, Auburn students were given exposure to unfamiliar technology applications in a real-world situation that has great implications for saving lives and significant savings in recovery dollars. The results of our recent 2012 test were impressive. The enthusiasm of the students and faculty at Auburn for learning by field testing has convinced us that the efforts are informative and provide valuable data not only for Berntsen and public utility asset managers, but are also instructive for the students.”
